Lagos State Govt Begins Demolition Of 114 Weak Buildings

In other to tackle the high rate of building collapse in Lagos state, the government started the demolition of 114 marked houses proven to be weak, yesterday.
57 of the 114 building would be demolished in the first season of demolition, Vanguard reports. Reports disclosed that officials of Lagos State Building control Agency, (LASBCA) arrived Lagos Island yesterday, where not less than 34 out of the 114 are located.
Bigger percentage of the buildings being picked for demolition are from two-storey to four-storey buildings, according to Sources.
Attesting to the event that played out, General Manager, LASBCA, Lekan Shodehinde, unveil that the weak buildings on the island were picked and approved by the governor of the state for first section of demolition.
He also disclosed that the govenment had given notice to the house owners, seeing that the house has become weak.
He said the action of the government to fall weak houses is to avert the situation of losing lives.
Shodehinde revealed that the government have run out of patient following that the house owners are careless to demolish the building themselves.
Explaining further, Shodehinde said before the demolition of the building, the house owners will be given 90days to pay for the demolitions services, and if they fail to do so, the land will take hold of the land.
He also said before the demolition of the buildings, many tests will be carried out.
