Arsene Wenger will step down as Arsenal manager come end of the football season.
Wow!
Not many envisaged that!
Wenger, 68, who has been manager for the London club for 22 years, has come under intense scrutiny in recent years for failing to win or even mount a serious challenge for the Premier League &Champions League.
“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” the French man said in a statement on Arsenal football club official website.
“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.
Arsene Wenger can boast of 3 Premier League titles, a record 7 FA Cups & 7 Community shields since his appointment in 1996.
But How Did It Go Bad For A Man Who Proudly Holds The Record Of Going An Entire Football Season Unbeaten In The Premier League?
Many will point to his failure to adapt to the modern type of football as we have seen in coaches like Pep Guardiola & Antonio Conte.
“This is one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport,” Majority owner Stan Kroenke said in a statement.
“He has also transformed the identity of our club and of English football with his vision for how the game can be played.
Arsenal players know they have to give a proper sending off to the club’s most successful manager and they will get the opportunity in the Europa League.
The gunners will face Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the competition.
Merci Arsene!
