Ex-Argentina World Cup star, Oscar Ruggeri has advised forward, Lionel Messi not to play again for Barcelona until after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ruggeri, a former Real Madrid star, wants the 30-year-old to call Barca’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu and inform him that he wants to dedicate his time for the Albiceleste before the World Cup kicks off in June.
He, however, wants Messi to focus on winning the World Cup for Argentina.
“Do you think Barcelona will lose the Spanish championship if Messi doesn’t play again?,” Ruggeri told 90 Minutes Fox
“Messi can call the Barcelona president and tell him ‘this is my World Cup; I’m going to dedicate myself to the national team”.
He added, “He [Messi] must also call the national team coach and tell him that he is going to be completely concentrated on the World Cup.”
Ruggeri won the World Cup for Argentina in 1986 in Mexico when he played alongside football icon, Diego Maradona.
