Facts have emerged on how police operatives foiled robbery operation after they recovered arms and ammunition hidden inside school premises by robbers in Lagos.
The incident happened on 31st May, 2018, at the Eko Boys High School located at Martin Street, Mushin, Lagos.
It was reported that some deadly armed robbers had brought a bag with arms and hid it inside the school with the intention to carry out operations later on that day. This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal at the State Command.
The police boss explained that the items were recovered following an intelligence report provided by the members of the public who noticed the bag and alerted the police.
He said that the DPO Alakara Division, CSP M. Buba got the information that a sack was kept at the school premises by unknown suspects. Hence the DPO mobilised some officers, went there and recovered the sack. When it was opened, the items found inside included one double barrelled pump action gun, one Barrette pistol, live ammunition and other weapons.
CP Edgal said that from the recovery, it has shown that the police and community partnership was growing stronger and the public had confidence in the police which was healthy for the fight against crime in the State.
He noted that another remarkable thing was the policing strategy which had been a huge success, because the suspects knew that they will not escape the police scrutiny and hence they abandoned the sack there and escaped.
Edgal said no arrests had been made in connection with the recovery but added that the police have intensified efforts to arrest the suspects as soon as possible.
It was gathered that some public schools had served as haven for some hardened criminals preparing for operations and it was one of such preparations that the armoury was brought to the school premises before their efforts were foiled.
