The club are hot on the tail of the Brazilian, and they are hoping to fend off interest from higher profile Premier League clubs.
The Guardian reports that the Toffees are confident of securing the deal when the transfer window opens.
He would be a big addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s team, and would cost them roughly £30 million.
The 22-year-old is linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, but he may see Everton as the best place to get regular first team football.
Also, Arsenal are not likely to make the UEFA Champions League either, and Chelsea are well stocked in central defence.
