Bruno Fernandes has been crowned Manchester United’s Player of the Month for June – his third consecutive award since joining the club.
The Portuguese gleaned 64 percent of the votes in our Official App, after a stellar month in which he scored three goals as the Reds strengthened the push for Champions League football next season and secured a berth in the Emirates FA Cup semi-final.
Fernandes’s fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic came second in the poll, with 20 percent, as he bedded straight into a new-look engine room, behind the effervescent Fernandes and the returning Paul Pogba.
Anthony Martial was also nominated for the award, at the end of a month in which the Frenchman registered his maiden hat-trick for the club, against Sheffield United. Our no.9 received 16 percent of the votes, but Bruno was the clear winner.
Fernandes’s impact at Old Trafford has been instant and he swept home the February and March awards prior to lockdown, by virtue of his scoring three goals and contributing four assists in his first nine United games.
While the COVID-19 pandemic may have thrown the footballing world into chaos, Bruno has emerged from the three-month shutdown as he entered it: with the desire to drive the Reds further up the Premier League table.
First, he showed his customary composure to slot home a late penalty at Tottenham to prevent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side’s unbeaten run coming to a halt at 11 two Fridays ago.
Then came the dismantling of the Blades and, while Martial stole the headlines with his three-goal salvo, the Yorkshire club were bewildered by Fernandes’s metronomic midfield partnership with Pogba.

Norwich in the FA Cup provided a different challenge – the Portuguese had to roll his sleeves up and commit to doing the dirty work as the Reds toiled into extra-time: just look at the effort he put in to track back and dispossess the Canaries’ Onel Hernandez as the Cuban threaten to break and sting United late on!
But Bruno saved the best until last. On Tuesday night at Brighton, he hit a post early on, before linking up with Pogba – again – to double United’s lead at the end of a half-hour where he had marshalled the hordes of Red invaders camped in the Seagulls’ half.
