Bruno Fernandes won a controversial penalty for Manchester United against Aston Villa, meaning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side broke a Premier League record.
In the 27th minute of the game on Thursday evening the referee adjudged that Fernandes had been fouled by Villa full back Ezri Konsa and VAR didn’t reverse the decision.
Man Utd won their 13th penalty of the season – equalling the record for spot-kicks awarded in a single Premier League campaign – but should it have been overturned?

On second look pretty much no one agreed it should have been a penalty but Solskjaer won’t care a s Fernandes continued his incredible form by slotting it home.

The spot kick was incredibly United 13th in the league this season, and no team has ever been awarded that many penalties in a Premier League campaign before.

United are looking to keep their run of 16 games without losing in-a-row going against Villa as they continue to try and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
After being helped by a penalty at the weekend against Bournemouth, and once more against Villa, it looks like luck is certainly on their side right now, or the referees are like in the days of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Soft pen for Man Utd. Very soft. In fact not a penalty.

I’m baffled by that penalty award. Fernandes deliberately runs over the ball and then treads on his opponent and goes down. What am I missing?

This man used his studs to step on the defender and won a penalty, this league is actually finished.

Dean Smith and his team will be rightly fuming as they try and battle against relegation, something that is becoming increasingly more difficult, not helped by referee decisions like that.
However the west Midlands’ club didn’t help themselves as United went 2-0 up on the stroke of half time. A quick counter attack by the visitors led to Anthony Martial playing it to Mason Greenwood on the edge of the area. The in form youngster struck home from outside the box to give Villa a tough ask.
