Tyson Fury has cast doubts over his anticipated Battle of Britain with Anthony Joshua by claiming the fight won’t happen because his rival and his promoter ‘know I’ll go through him like a hot knife through butter’.

The two heavyweight champions have agreed finances on a two-fight deal though a number of key details have not yet even been discussed.

WBC king Fury is free to fight Joshua next should he come through his trilogy clash with Deontay Wilder but has told former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch that he does not expect AJ to fulfill their agreement.

Speaking on his podcast, Froch said: ‘I put something on my Insta story – it was a picture of AJ and Fury facing off with a ticking clock above it. I’ve had a message in my direct inbox from Tyson Fury.

‘He’s put, “The fight won’t happen, the man’s a s***house. He and his promoter know I’ll go through him like a hot knife through butter”.

‘So that’s Fury’s response to me putting a picture of them two facing off.

‘He genuinely doesn’t think that Joshua or Eddie Hearn want the fight but I think they do. I think AJ has to take the fight or his credibility is gone.

‘That’s the one everyone wants to see and it has to happen next.’

There has been huge clamour for Fury and Joshua to meet in a blockbuster clash which would see the first undisputed heavyweight champion crowned since Lennox Lewis in the early 2000s.

With fights of this magnitude complications are inevitable but a significant one was removed on the weekend when Dillian Whyte relinquished his chance to challenge Fury for his WBC world title next following his knockout defeat by Alexander Povetkin.

Both Fury and Joshua are otherwise engaged and must deal with Wilder and Kubrat Pulev respectively before settling the argument over who is the greatest heavyweight of their generation, but AJ is already engaging himself in the fighting talk.

‘I have a lot of respect for the man, he’s a good family man and a good fighter, but on the other hand, I want to break his head,’ Joshua said curtly while appearing on Sky One’s A League Of Their Own.

The unified champion then made a forthright prediction about Fury’s fate.

‘First six rounds, I think, well I know I’m going to take him out then,’ he said.

‘I have had a shorter career, so I’m fresher.

‘I’ve been in the deep end longer so I can handle the pressure and I believe I’m going to take him out.’
