Lippi: ‘Cannot set Juve-Napoli precedent’

Lippi: ‘Cannot set Juve-Napoli precedent’

Marcello Lippi is ‘curious to see’ what decision is made regarding Juventus-Napoli and the upturn in COVID-19 cases. ‘They cannot create a precedent.’

Napoli did not make the journey to Turin because the local ASL health association ordered the squad to self-isolate after two positive tests, but Juve and the Lega Serie A insist the existing protocol should’ve been maintained.

“Nobody expected this surge in positive cases. It’s very difficult now, but if we started the season with a protocol that was accepted by everyone, we should keep going with it,” Lippi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am curious to see how the disciplinary commission deals with the Juventus-Napoli issue, because they cannot create a precedent.”

Lippi famously won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 and is impressed by Roberto Mancini’s side, who have won 12 of their last 13 games.

“Mancini’s work has been splendid, as he started out by calling some young players before they’d even made their debuts at club level. He has an attacking, positive style of football and that’s wonderful to see.”
