Svay Rieng provincial police in Camnodia have arrested 32 year-old Kim Panha for insulting the King, the Prime Minister and the other leaders via Facebook. The provincial police, having been made aware of the Facebook posts, investigated and then arrested Mr Panha at his home in Bavit City last Wednesday. On the next day the provincial court prosecutor charged him, citing the Criminal Code, with “public defamation [Libel], insulting the King [lèse-majesté], insulting the public, and Incitement to Commit Crime”. Lèse-majesté (Article 42) is punishable with up to five years in prison. Presiding Judge Sovann Chankrisna ordered the provincial prison chief to keep the accused in pretrial detention from May 23 until September 23. Late last month, Tboung Khmum Provincial Court charged a 45-year-old with incitement to commit a felony and placed him in pretrial detention after he posted messages insulting Prime Minister Hun Sen on Facebook. The post Photo: 32 year-old man arrested in Cambodia for insulting the King, the Prime Minister and other leaders on Facebook appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
