Community Shield: Fans to watch Liverpool face Arsenal or Chelsea

Community Shield: Fans to watch Liverpool face Arsenal or Chelsea

About 20,000 fans are set to be allowed to attend the Community Shield at Wembley in August, according to reports.

Premier League champions Liverpool are set to face the winners of the FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea on August 29 at the national stadium.

According to The Sun the FA are in advanced talks with the Government and it is likely that supporters will be allowed into Wembley for the traditional curtain-raiser ahead of the new Premier League season.

It would be first time since the 2019-20 season was shut down in mid-March that fans in the UK would be able attend live football.

It is hoped that the FA will get the green light to allow between 15-20,000 fans to attend the Community Shield providing social-distancing guidelines are adhered to.

The proposal is part of a wider plan to get fans back into stadiums across various sports by October. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said earlier this month that the government “intends” to have sports fans back in stadiums from October 1, announcing there will be a series of pilot events to trial the return of crowds.

Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston said: “The pilot schemes are really important so we can hit that target of October.”
